WOODSPRING Indoor BowLs Club was founded in 1980.
Keen local bowlers, eager to have an indoor venue for use in the winter months, secured the lease on an empty Co-op shop.  A sum of £7000 was raised, but much hard work was needed before any bowling could start.  By December 1980, some 229 members began to play.
Over the years, improvements have gradually taken place.  A laser-levelled wooden floor was installed in 1995, and a large upstairs function room was completely refurbished in 1998.
During the summer of 2005, a substantial refurbishment of the Greens took place which saw the removal of the substantial brick pillars dividing the two rinks, and replacing them with steel supports, and making both rinks the same length. A new bowling surface and carpet completed the transformation.
Many members have entered the club through the coaching scheme, first introduced and run by Mr Harold Speed, and ably assisted by Mr Jack Hall.  Harold started coaching in 1986, and many hundreds of Members have benefited from the instruction and gone on to be competent Club bowlers.  Harold was renowned for his catch phrase "Get your arm back!".  Since Harold's retirement, coaching still continues and new bowlers are encouraged to attend these sessions.
All the developments has given WOODSPRING Indoor Bowls Club a unique ambiance and character, and a great place to play bowls, and meet new friends.
